Recreation and Education Surround the 20th Annual Colorado Mountain Winefest

PALISADE, Colo. (Sept. 6, 2011) –

The 20th Annual Colorado Mountain Winefest is nearly here with festivities beginning Sept. 15 and wrapping up Sept. 18. The highlight of the four-day event is Saturday's (Sept. 17) Festival in the Park in Palisade's Riverbend Park, which features Colorado wines and winemakers, live jazz, grape stomping, chef demonstrations and more.

Also surrounding the Festival in the Park are a number of recreational and educational opportunities.

The unofficial kick-off of the Colorado Mountain Winefest is the Thursday, Sept. 15, 4-person golf scramble at Bookcliff Country Club (2730 G Road, Grand Junction), which is followed by a wine reception. The golf and wine reception is $125 per player or $500 for a team of four. For more details and tickets, participants are asked to contact the Bookcliff Country Club directly at 970-242-9053.

In addition to the recreation, the Colorado Mountain Winefest offers participants the opportunity to expand their wine knowledge. One such learning opportunity is the Dine, Wine and Vine Experience on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Wine Country Inn in Palisade. Have a relaxed lunch at the Wine Country Inn with State Enologist Dr. Steve Menke. Lunch is served with Colorado's best produce and paired with Colorado wine. A walk through the vineyards with Dr. Menke will enhance the lunch and allow participants to learn more about the romance of Colorado winemaking. Reservations for this seminar ($65) may be made through the Colorado Mountain Winefest website, www.coloradowinefest.com.

And if you're only able to make it to Saturday's Festival in the Park, the seminar Farm to Table Food and Wine Pairing with Kevin and Evan is fun and educational (held within Riverbend Park). Executive Chef Kevin Kidd and Beverage Manager and Colorado wine guru Evan Faber of Boulder's Salt Bistro offer the quintessential pairing seminar with two of the most fun food and wine specialists. The flavors and pairings will challenge the taste buds. Tickets ($30) are available at www.coloradowinefest.com.
