For more than a century, this region has cultivated premium fruit in
an ideal, high altitude setting with clear hot days and cool nights.
The tradition continues with wine grapes; Mesa and Delta Counties are
home to more than 80% of the vineyards in Colorado. During Winefest,
it's "crush" – the culmination of the season's hard work. Ripe
wine grapes are harvested at the peak balance of flavors, sugars and
acids, and processed at the wineries by the winemakers and "cellar
rats." Every year on the Sunday following the Festival in the Park,
wineries extend a special invitation to spend the day touring the scenic
vineyard country. Sample a wide variety of wines, some of which are only
available in the tasting rooms. Take a winery tour, see
the art of winemaking, and linger for entertainment and appetizers. Bottles
and cases of wine are available for purchase (inquire about case discounts).
No tickets are necessary.
